Who I help:
From TED speakers to Google executives, Broadway singers to Hollywood actors, entrepreneurs to artists, I've helped hundreds, if not thousands, of amazing people develop a world class command of their speech, language and voice for more effective results onstage and off. People like you.
You're an intelligent, compassionate speaker who thrives in a 1:1 environment but you want to take your message to a larger audience.
You may have no idea how to get started with a speaking career; or no experience beyond a best man speech. You have so much awesomeness to share and you're ready to step it up, but you're held back by self doubt, stemming from a slight cloudiness over your message. You're also afraid of sounding awkward, verbose, confusing and worst of all, uninspiring.
It's frustrating how long it takes for you to feel that your script is in the sweet spot to reflect your message. Even when it is, it sounds inauthentic and scripted coming out of your mouth. You try to practice, but God forbid you should record yourself on audio or video. Who knows what the hell you might see?
At the end of the day, you want to express your message in a clear, powerful way that helps your audience live life differently or do something differently.
You don't know where to turn.
You look online and cringe at most of the cookie cutter speaking skills or Toast Master's trainings you see. None of them capture the type of realness you're going for. You'd love to work with someone who has worked with the big guys but doesn't have a big head and can show you the ropes without making you feel inadequate along the way. You want to work with someone who can help uplevel your message to make it even better. More captivating. More inspiring. Drive more results.
You'd love a coach to help you know exactly what to do to make your message (and you) shine on stage. Who knows, maybe that stage would be at TED, SXSW, and more? Who knows, maybe you could help change the world?
After all, the sky is the speaker's limit.
If this is indeed you, let's talk. I can help.
Sridhar Ramaswamy, Senior Vice President of Ads & Commerce, Google
"Tom Burke and I have been working together for close to two years now. He has made my public presentation skills much, much better. In everything from body posture and hand movement to inflection and tone, he has detailed, subtle and amazing insight on how I can be better. More than everything else, Tom has taught me to really "feel" what I say in a way that makes my presentations genuine, exciting and appealing. (That he can do this with someone who would rather write software or poetry than speak to 5000 people is a further testament to his skill and ability.) Thank you, Tom!"
Vincent Rodriguez III, star of The CW's "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend"
"Part of what makes Tom so great as our coach is how all encompassing he is in his style of teaching: clever, knowledgeable, innovative and funny. It's something special that I have never encountered in NYC since I got here 12 years ago."
Abigail Posner, Head of Strategic Planning, Google
"At the core of Tom's work is his ability to tease out the true stories of one's work and tie them together powerfully and meaningfully into one cohesive narrative."
Vanessa Tuna, singer
"Tom helped me get in shape for the "vocal marathon" of my life: a Whitney Houston Tribute Concert. 12 Whitney songs, 5-7 shows a week, for 2 months. It was VERY challenging to say the least, BUT my voice stayed strong and healthy the whole time."
Chieh Huang, CEO of Boxed.com
"Tom is a an experienced advisor who helped us think about how we express the history and future of Boxed. He helped us pull together our thoughts into a coherent message."
My goal is to not only share the technical secrets to great singing & great speaking, but help my clients unearth their true potential as a communicator and connect to audiences in deeper, more meaningful ways that can inspire the world.
How I think about Thought Leadership Development.
I see the trajectory of today's thought leaders moving through three phases.
Phase I: Cracking the Code.
In this phase, you have a problem related to an ineffective use of speech, language or voice. This problem is undermining the growth of your speaking, singing or teaching career, your sales, your business effectiveness, or your relationships. As a result, you're focused on identifying the source of the problem and taking measurable steps to fix it.
Phase II: Clarifying Your Process.
In phase two, you've moved to functional communication. You're good at what you do, but not necessarily great. You want better sales, deeper relationships with audiences, better gigs, more vocal versatility, bigger stages, clearer, more elegant educational explanations and more. As a result, you're focused on how to optimize your communication skills to more effectively achieve the best results possible, through a command of speech, language, body and voice.
Phase III: Connecting to your calling.
In this stage, you've joined the ranks of the world's best worriers. Yes, those who worry that their vision will not have been big enough; that their reach will not have been wide enough before they die. You're externally operating at an optimal level yet internally an unsettling shift has occurred. The money is there. The followers are there... but you're not "all there." Something is missing in what you're doing. You're not thinking big enough and it's causing some underlying anxiety. You waffle between polyanna-ism and pessimism; dreaming you can help contribute to saving the world somehow yet wondering how your small part in the cosmos really matters. You're now focused on embracing the gray between these two poles, trying to connect to your higher purpose, continuing to hone your craft of clarity and communication, widening your reach, and trying to stay ever present along the way.
Where can you connect more to your true purpose as a thought leader & communicator?
You've got a secret, a gift, and the world needs it. What's in the way of you truly sharing it? Is it the messaging, the medium, or your means of delivery that is most frustrating for you? Where do you need a more cohesive strategy for your communications?
Whether you're singing it, speaking it, writing it or something-elsing it, I want to help you crack the problems, clarify your process, connect to your big vision and ultimately...
Express Your Genius.
